While the most recent Nintendo Direct was full of shock and surprise, arguably the show’s biggest moment was the gameplay reveal of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Samus fans have been hoping for years that we’d get a peek at the game to prove that it wasn’t vaporware, and just a few weeks back that dream came true.

While there’s a lot to learn about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond before its 2025 launch, a new bit of detail has just popped up courtesy of Retro Studios’ lead UI artist Jon Wofford. Wafford took to X to share some insight into the redesign that Samus’ visor view has gotten when compared to previous Prime installments. It appears that Wafford’s goal was to mix the familiar with the new.

“Metroid Prime 4 has been a dream project, and my favorite part has been designing, crafting, and animating Samus’s HUD. I learned a lot during MPR [Metroid Prime Remastered], and I hope it shows. …(The) goal was to create a modern update to the visor that honors the Metroid Prime legacy. I think the trailer also does a good job showing that the HUD shouldn’t bother trying to compete with the incredible environments, characters, lighting, animation, VFX… I am constantly humbled by the talent on this team.”

Some of the comments above also come from Wofford’s Artstation profile, where he’s shown off some more shots of the game and shared some input. It’s not often we get to hear this kind of input from a dev working on an upcoming Nintendo title, which makes it all the more interesting. Hopefully Nintendo doesn’t pull the plug on this breakdown, but just incase they do, make sure you have a thorough read of Wofford’s Metroid Prime 4: Beyond thoughts here.
