Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is a fantastic sequel that builds on the original in pretty much every way. That said, it seems many people held off on a purchase at launch due to the belief that Ubisoft lowers their game prices very shortly after launch. That’s been proven time and time again with multiple releases, and Sparks of Hope has followed the same path.

If you’ve still been waiting to pull the trigger on a Sparks of Hope purchase, you now have a new option available to you. Launching just today, Ubisoft has released a code-in-box version of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. It’s obviously not the way to go for those who want a fully physical release, but for the people who there who like to have a game box on their shelf but don’t mind downloading the game itself, this option is for you.

While it’s nice to have more options, there’s something quite odd about this code-in-box release. For whatever reason, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope’s physical release on a game card is $40, while the code-in-box version is exactly the same price. You’d think the code-in-box version would be cheaper, but clearly Ubisoft feels differently.

If you want to scoop up the code-in-box version of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, you can do so through Best Buy. That said, please note that you can purchase a physical version of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope with a game card on Amazon, and it’s available for just $20.

In Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, team up with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and their friends on a galactic journey to defeat a malevolent entity and save your Spark companions. Explore planets throughout the galaxy as you uncover mysterious secrets and compelling quests!

Darn I’ve been holding out for the physical “gold version” to hit $20 as with the last game. It seems the gold version mostly vanished from store shelves and never did hit that price point. I guess I’ll need to bite the bullet and get the standard version for sub-$20 before this code-in-box version is all that’s left…
