Nintendo fans know very well just how fastidious Nintendo is when it comes to watching their IP. Should they see anyone, be it an individual or company, using their IP in ways they see unfit, they’re quick to swoop in. Rumor has it that’s exactly what Nintendo’s doing right now, and the target this time is X, formerly known as Twitter.

X allows its users to use an AI chatbot called Grok, and they can create all sorts of content through it. That includes AI-generated images, and plenty of people have been using Grok to conjure up images of Mario. As Grok seems to have less safeguards than most AI programs/chatbots, users are able to get results of Mario doing things Nintendo would definitely be against, such as drinking and smoking.

We’ve learned that multiple X posts featuring AI-generated images of Mario through Grok have been hit with DMCA takedowns. These takedowns were handled by a company called Tracer, and they’re supposedly issuing these notices on Nintendo’s behalf. Neither Tracer or Nintendo have commented on the matter at this time, but the end result has been AI-generated Mario images being yanked.

We’ve reached out to Nintendo for comment on this matter. Should they respond, we’ll be sure to update the post.

This is the best possible use of Nintendo's copyright lawyers.
