The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has been out for a week+ now, and people have had plenty of time to explore Hyrule to see what it’s hiding. Not surprisingly, it appears the 2024 version of Hyrule has a lot in common from another iteration from decades ago.

If you’re a big fan of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, you’ve no doubt seen a few landmarks in Echoes of Wisdom that has made you raise an eyebrow. One such example can be seen above, with the original Desert Palace on the left and a destroyed version on the right. These kinds of similarities and callbacks can be seen everywhere, which is causing fans to dig even deeper.

Not only does the Hyrule from Echoes of Wisdom literally echo A Link to the Past’s map, it also appears like it lines up incredibly well. As you can see in the fan-made image above, it looks like A Link to the Past’s map matches almost perfectly with the map from Echoes of Wisdom. This works out so well that it simply can’t be a coincidence.

It seems quite clear that Nintendo and Grezzo had A Link to the Past on their minds when building out Echoes of Wisdom, and seeing the original map laid out on the Echoes of Time version pretty much seals the deal. Now what does this mean for timeline placement and story connections? Those are avenues fans will have to spend a lot more time with before we have a clear picture.

That's like the first thing you notice after venturing out into Hyrule. You see southern Hyrule and the desert and you just know it's the same as in ALttP.
Since the Desert Palace is in shambles it takes place at least after ALttP probably even after ALBW and TFH since no one seems to have any knowledge about the Triforce anymore (aside being aware of some vague great power). The River Zora being friendly points to after ALttP as well.
